Avonhead Montessori provide cooked/freshly prepared meals, along with morning tea and afternoon tea for all enrolled children. We have been fortunate to team up with a local experienced cooking company called Healthkicks who cater age-appropriate, nutritionally balanced and freshly cooked meals for the children at our centre on a daily basis.
Who are Healthkicks?
Just like us, Healthkicks is based locally in Avonhead. After placing top 5 on the well-known TV show, My Kitchen Rules – Owners, Jessie and Ricki were inspired to start their journey and own business in 2014 with the intention of helping people eat healthy, whilst on the go and at an affordable price. Find out more about Healthkicks by visiting their website, https://www.healthkicks.nz/
Our menus are seasonally designed, with an emphasis on well-balanced meals, providing the nutrition and energy your child needs, and for all aspects of their growth and development.
If your child has any food allergies or requirements due to health, cultural or religious reasons then we will work closely with Healthkicks to ensure an alternative option is available to your child, at all times.
French and Mandarin lessons
With many of our staff able to speak multiple languages, we are excited to make the most of this wonderful resource by introducing French & Mandarin lessons for our children in 2020!
Family Evenings and Involvement
We highly value and encourage involvement from all of our families.
We hold regular parent evenings, once a term, which may include a guest speaker, focus on a specific topic, or simply a fish and chip evening. We also hold an annual Children’s Christmas party to celebrate each year with all families, children and staff. We hold formal parent teacher interviews once a year with dedicated time spent with your child’s profile teacher reviewing your child’s time at preschool and any questions/aspirations you may have.
Excursions are a valuable learning experience and great fun for the children. We schedule trips according to the curriculum and community events and are usually inundated with parent help for the trips, which is great. All excursions are thoroughly planned and attention to health and safety risks is continually assessed with a strong emphasis on high teacher to child ratios. Permission is required from caregivers before the children go on any excursion.
Portfolios & Storypark
We use an awesome app called Storypark, which allows whānau to follow their child’s early learning journey and to ensure you don’t miss out on important centre communications.
Photos, videos and audio capture your child’s learning so you never miss a treasured moment again. You and your family can also feel more engaged in your child’s development, and you decide who you would like to invite to experience your childs learning journey with you. A perfect way to share those special moments with loved ones down the line or overseas.
Although we love to use Storypark as an online platform to communicate with parents, we also use paper portfolios for each child.
Children enjoy finding their paper portfolio and reflecting on their past activities at the centre. It is a fantastic way for children to engage in self-recognition and reflect on their personal development, as well as being a treasured keepsake for their 21st Birthday!
